Exterior:
Interior: The
interior of the Boxster is comfortable and a nice place to spend time
carving up back roads. The materials on some models are not as
luxurious as one might expect, however the seats are supportive and
function well. Porsche kept to a simple interior design which enables
the driver and passenger to focus on the road and performance of the
Boxster. Because the engine is located in a compartment in the middle
of the car, there are actually two trunks, which makes this small
roadster surprisingly practical. The rear trunk is large enough for a
golf bag, while the front can hold a few small suitcases. One thing to
note is that models after 2003 have an improved interior which features
a glass window in the soft top in place of the old plastic one.
Driving: Handling
is where the Boxster stands out from the rest of the supercar crowd.
This small and nimble car will hold the road at any speed. It is safe
to say that nothing shy of a Formula 1 race car has more perfect
steering or a more responsive chassis. The driver of the Boxster knows
exactly what is going on in every part of the car. This is due to a
perfect chassis as well as the mid engine layout. All of the engines
available on this car performed beyond expectations, however the 2003
and up Boxster S is known as the most powerful version of the 986
generation. The Boxster S had 27 more horsepower than the Boxster, as
well as upgraded brakes and suspension.
The
sheer number of awards the Boxster won in its introductory year
demonstrates just how good a car this really is. In 1997 alone, the
Porsche Boxster won Car & Driver’s 10 Best Cars, Automobile’s
Automobile of the Year, Motor’s 1997 Performance Car of the Year,
Autocar’s Best Roadster in the World, Motorweek’s Drivers Choice for
Best Sports Car, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Best Sports Car of the
Decade, Newsweek’s One of the Best New Products of 1997,
BusinessWeek’s One of the Best New Products of 1997 and The American
Marketing Association’s Best New Product of 1997. No other eveidence
is needed to show how capable a roadster this cheap sports car is.
